Austin Progressive Potluckers: SOS Children’s Villages

Potluck date:

Saturday, 22 August 2009 - 6:30pm to 9:00pm

SOS Children’s Villages (SOS) is the world’s largest organization caring for orphaned and abandoned children. Begun in Austria in 1949 to care for war orphans, SOS is celebrating its 60th year. Today, over 70,000 children have a place to call home in one of our 475 villages in 132 countries, including the U.S. Typically, 10-15 homes form an SOS village, with up to 10 children per home raised by an SOS mother, with brothers and sisters kept together. By 2010, there will be an estimated 45 million children needing homes, parenting and protection from exploitation due to civil war, extreme poverty, natural disasters and the AIDS pandemic.

PLEASE JOIN US for the potluck to learn more about SOS and the various ways you can help orphaned children. Our host Anoek Inbar, along with other SOS donors, will inspire you with her personal joy in sponsoring two sisters in a village in the Czech Republic. You can visit or contact Margie Bruszer at [email protected] or 202-347-7922; calls are forward to her cell in Texas.

Please bring a dish that serves approximately 6-8 people and something to drink. Host will provide plates, utensils, and cups (although you are always encouraged to bring your own re-useable items). Our hosts will supply water and ice tea.
