Chickens

Here are Rocki (on left) and Buffi.Rocki is a Barred Rock, while Buffi is a Buff Orpington

They are getting quite tame and will come to eat on anything green I can offer them.

Rocki checking out that camera... "could there be a tasty morsel on that lense?"

They live in a lovely home called a Chicken Tractor which I built. I thought purple and white were ideal chicken colors and they seem to agree. It is a moveable cage which gives them fresh access to the ground which they can merrily chomp on (grass & weeds) and poop on (for fabulous fertilizer).

Here is another view of Chez Rocki et Buffi.

And with the roof open..

They are a little "chicken" sometimes...

But Rocki sometimes is the braver of the two.

Here Colette shows the correct posture for entering the tractor.

And look at what the happy chickens make for us!!!

And me holding Buffi and Rocki (2-7-2002) They are each laying an egg each day and seem very cheery even though the weather has been pretty chilly.

We just added wheels to the Chicken tractor to make it roll around more easily. Here Tsaitel inspects the area nearby for fowl activity. (2-14-02)

Bruce was instrumental in the wheel implementation. Using his expert skills, he deftly came up with an excellent design. We implemented and it works! (2-14-02)

Here I am pointing out to Buffi how the wheels will make her life so much more satisfying. (2-14-2002)

I got a new chicken - her name is Precious - She is a Production Red (Rhode Island Red I believe)

Here she is strolling around with her new friend Rocki. (Aug 2002).

Isn't she elegant? (Precious Aug 2002)

She loves posing for the camera (Precious Aug 2002)

Here is our latest addition to the flock. She is a cute little bantam that was saved from a classroom. We have named her Angelina.(Aug 2003)

Here is a lovely chap named Christopher who helped Angelina settle into her new surroundings.(Sep 2003)

Here she is again with her tail up - feeling a little more confident in chickendom. (Sep 2003)
