Our Trip to South Africa Cape Town (page 2) Please be patient as the images load...
2/2/2001. Let the feeding begin again. This time after a shopping spree at Pick 'n Pay. If you are sensing a trend here..Shopping, feeding, shopping, feeding, shopping, feeding. Frank, Sara-Anne and Dad focusing on the food.
We even tried to get the food to pose. Here is Sara-Anne ready to dig in.
Benny showing us all the art of spaghetti. With his own bowl of parmesan cheese. Life is good!
And again.
Benny, Madison and I at the bar.
Madison and I having a tender moment. Frank in the background.
Benny in a sensitive pose.
Sammy in the car. It was a little rainy that afternoon.
Nevertheless, we braved the rain to visit the penguins at Boulders Beach. Madison and Benjamin admiring.
and posing.
Benjamin with more of the landscape in the background.
Benjamin later that day (2/3/2001) had an enounter up-close and personal with a penguin. It bit him on the nose when he approached it for a kodak moment. After a few minutes he was back to normal, albeit with a few semi-permanent peck marks on his nose. Here he is pre-peck.
It started to rain again. So we dashed back to the car.
Just in time to do a little more eating. Frank helping Benny focus on a toasted cheese sandwich when Benny really wants to go play in that really cool kids room at Spur restaurant in Sea Point. We were planning on meeting Leslene, Mike and kids there for lunch.
Madison showing Sammy how to bite into a burger with a vengeance.
Mike, Frank, Lynn, me, Leslene and Danielle.
Sammy had lots of fun in the play area. The restaurant provides adults for the kids to play with and your know how adults are when they get their hands on fingerpaints.
Danielle decided it was time to do Mom's hair.
Mom was pleased.
Swaying her hair this way...
and that. Here she was ready to give the hairdresser a sizeable tip.
After lunch, we did a little strolling down the boardwalk in Sea Point. We are near Arthurs road here.
and another shot. It looks a bit misty, but I don't remember it being misty.
The boardwalk and some mountain. This is at about 2pm.
Look how those trees are bent over from the wind.
Looking the other direction on the boardwalk.
Seagulls and pigeons seemed to please Madison, Sam and Lynn.
Why it's time for Rhodes Memorial. This is Benny atop a bronze lion. We made a stop on the way back from Sea Point. It's about 3pm, isn't that time for tea and scones?
At the entrance..
Why yes it is time for tea and scones. Lynn had to get this picture. My first bite into a South African scone in 18 years. Yumm!!!!! It's been too long.
Frank and Sam enjoyed theirs also.
The view from below.
It's pretty precarious getting people up on those lions for the great photo ops. Madison, Benny and Frank. (perhaps Lynn on the lion?)
But by golly, we did it! Lynn and Sammy.
Madison, Lynn and Sammy.
And we are off again in our super-kombi. Keep left, left, left, left, left. Aw heck, just follow the cars in front. Benny always knew which way to turn. Then I realized, he believed both directions were called left.
Madison flexing for the crowds that evening.
Self portrait. I guess we headed back to the beach. Maybe that was the muizenburg beach trip. Everyone looks less clad.
Back at Whale of a time. Give Lynn a glass of wine and by 10:30 she has to hold her head up with her hand. Ah, the joys of mommy-hood.
One last burst of energy.
Someone came to visit. I can't remember their names. Anyone help here?
Next morning (2/4/2001) The consecration of our Grandmother Etty Julius.
Benny and Lynn looking on at the new gravestone.

Sammy found some great wings.

Uh-oh, Bernard got hold of the camera. He found the effects.

Benny looks on as Ashley does a little computer training.
Just who is this little urchin?
Perhaps another look?

Nicole and Christin getting cuddly
Barbara and me.
Lotsa mamas.
At the mall at the waterfront next afternoon. (2/5/2001) We desparately needed to do some shopping and Frank had fallen in love with some artwork in the crafts bazaar. We begain to settle down to do some eating after some heavy shopping and Sammy felt the urge to do a little posing for photographs. Sammy perched on a sack on a barrel. Me looking on. There were some really delicious looking cakes nearby. I got a piece to go.
A kodak moment? Sammy and I.
And the feeding began afresh. At a really fantastic seafood place in the mall at the waterfront. Notice the authentic tomato sauce in the foreground.
A light bout of after lunch shopping at Woolworths. Madison modelling a fabulous Ralph Lauren Jr. number.
View of the waterfront.
Parenting is fun, parenting is fun, parenting is harumph!....
Let's take to the ocean. 4:17pm and it's time for a cruise on a luxury catamaran around the bay. Boys are pretty pleased and there is free champagne and beer. Frank, Ben and Madison.
We could not have asked for a more beautiful day. The view of table mountain from the boat.
Ahoy thar sailors. Ben and I near the mast.
Table mountain again from the bay.
Madison seems quite impressed.
Sammy was quite a handful on the sailing excursion. Lynn spent most of the trip below with him.
Lusitania fisheries? Seemed familiar for some reason.
Back in port we get ready to disembark.
Quite a vessel.
Singing group back at the waterfront. They were pretty good dancers also. One guy danced pretty well even on crutches. Check out the video Thats it for Cape Town. We were sad to leave, certain no experience could top this one. Next Stop Johannesburg and Lesedi.
Next morning 2/6/2001, 8:17 am. To the airport we go.
We are definitely in South Africa. Where else could you find "Kromboom" road. (Skew or crooked tree for the non-afrikaans speakers) |
