Intro to Permaculture Winter 2002/2003 Series

You are cordially invited to attend the Introduction to Permaculture Courses of the Winter 2002/03 Series. Please feel free to bring friends and associates. Habitat Suites, a remarkably green-built and green-run hotel has been kind enough to loan us a meeting room. Habitat Suites is located at 500 Highland Mall Blvd. on the North side of the Mall, next to the Sailing Center and down a 100 yd driveway - there is easy access from I-35 at 290. (Click here for the map)

This is a good time to become an "armchair Permaculture student" - although Winters in Austin are mild enough to get right out and try a rain barrel, put in a small garden bed, start a compost pile, or to start planning a fruit orchard or herb spiral. A great time to start to observe Nature's glory, designs, patterns, and preparations for spring. We'll talk about some principles but also give you a couple of things to go home and try out. We'll be planning some spring outings and have a big 9-day class in April, so this is a good time to start learning so you are ready to roar into Spring come late January and February.

If you know Permaculture pass this on to your friends, and come along too. If you are new to Permaculture, we'd be happy to introduce you to sustainable systems design and start you on a path to tread lightly on this earth, create a surplus and give something back, and work with Nature on the restoration process while having fun and getting joy out of life. Do come and spend a fun and informative evening with us. We hope to see you there.

Please pass this invitation along to others. For those that need a definition the clips below are from Permaculture web sites:

“ Permaculture is a practical concept which can be applied in the city, on the farm, and in the wilderness. Its principles empower people to establish highly productive environments providing for food, energy, shelter, and other material and non-material needs, including economic. Carefully observing natural patterns characteristic of a particular site, the Permaculture designer gradually discerns optimal methods for integrating water catchment, human shelter, and energy systems with tree crops, edible and useful perennial plants, domestic and wild animals and aquaculture.

Permaculture adopts techniques and principles from ecology, appropriate technology, sustainable agriculture, and the wisdom of indigenous peoples. The ethical basis of Permaculture rests upon care of the earth and maintaining a system in which all life can thrive. This includes human access to resources and provisions, but not the accumulation of wealth, power, or land beyond their needs.”
