A permaculture study group started on May 28,2003 from 7-9pm.The study group meets every 4th wednesday from 7-9pm. The group is for permaculture graduates but is open to the public on an audit basis only. This means that if someone new to permaculture would like to attend the sessions, they should be observers only, holding their participation until the end of the sessions when they are caught up. This will ensure that the sessions can progress without having to re-teach permaculture. That is what the fundamentals course is for. We meet at Selwyn's house (5509 Delwood Drive 78723)

All permaculture graduates are encouraged to attend the study group as we will get more in depth in permaculture studies and have those deeper discussions we all were anxious to have during the class when there wasn't time.

Feel free to bring snacks or drinks to share - there will be no charge for these events - We will be following the playbook as our guideline for our Syllabus.

Sunday 22 June 2003
Marjory is sponsoring a Cash Flow 101 game at her home on Sunday June 22, 2003. From 4 pm - 6:30 pm. If you've never heard of Cash Flow 101, it is a game designed by Robert Kiyosaki (author of the Rich Dad series of books on wealth creation). The game is designed to teach the principles that involved in becoming rich. This does not necessarily mean having a lot of money.

She has capacity for approximately 25 players. Please email her at marjory@glowka.com if you are coming - I need to get an idea of how many folks are interested. If you come, please bring a calculator. You are welcome to stay afterwards for a pot-luck and a swim.

Please join us for a permaculture PARTY and POTLUCK at Dale's place. Everyone is welcome - significant others, kids, chickens...

Time: Show up anytime after 1, we will plan on eating around 4 and stay until Dale kicks us out!
What to expect: Lots of laughing and catching up, hugs, good food, a chance to check out Dale's rainwater catchment and composting toilet systems. Also, we are inviting Dale and Nancy's Ishmael group so there will be some new faces as well. Reconnect with your permie buddies, make some new friends, and get an enthusiasm and inspiration boost! What to bring: a dish to share with everyone, BYOB and other drinks (Dale will have water or iced tea available), musical instrument (if you want to play it for us), lawn chair or blanket

RSVP: barnarddale@yahoo.com

Dale is interested in design ideas for his 2-acre property. If you want to participate in a pre-party Wild Design, let Dale know so he can do some organizing around that. Anyone needing a little back-to-nature time is invited to camp on the property Saturday night.

Driving directions:
Dale's place is a bit of a drive from Austin (about 40 minutes), so lets try to get some car pooling going. Any large vehicle volunteers out there?

Directions from I35:

  • Head south and exit at Kyle, Hwy 150. Go to the right, through town, staying on 150 (there will be a couple stop signs).
  • Follow 150 for about 15 minutes until it turns and heads north (to the right) by the Hays City Store. But don't follow 150 north, just keep going straight-you're on 3237 now.
  • Drive 2 miles, then take a right on Rolling Oaks (there will be a green road sign)
  • Go about a mile and take the second road to the left (Lonesome Trail). It's at the top of a hill and easy to miss. If you see Misti Lane to the right,
you've gone too far. We're the second gravel driveway to the left in a curve with the sign "Base Camp".

SCENIC ROUTE from Austin: Take Mopac (Loop 1) south until it turns into 45 and dead ends at a blinking red light. Take a left onto 1826. Continue for about 15 minutes-when you pass the Salt Lick on the right, you'll know you're getting close to the next intersection. The road will dead end at 150-take a left. Drive through Driftwood (don't blink) and continue about 12 minutes. The road will dead end at 3237 by the Hays City Store, and you'll turn right. See previous directions (the bulleted part).

Sunday 4 May, 2003
