Urban Sustainable Gardening: Fall Bed Preparation

Saturday, July 20, 2013 - 9:00am to 12:00pm

Gardeners know that they always must be looking well ahead to weather patterns and garden preparations. Everything we plant this year is laying groundwork for the following harvest and seasons. In the July class, we will go over the basics of garden site selection, soil evaluation and fertility, ways to prepare a site for planting, options for building and different soil mixes for raised beds, and the use of soil amendments. We will also cover seed starting and transplanting, as well as local planting dates. Students will actively participate in open discussion and in planting a fall bed. Depending on how much time is available after the class discussion and hands-on, a seed starting demo may also be included as well.
