Screening of “Miss Representation”
“Miss Representation” http://www.missrepresentation.org/ analyzes the mass media’s limited and often disparaging portrayals of women and girls, challenging the view that women’s value and power lie in youth, beauty, and sexuality, not in intelligence and leadership abilities. Writer/director Jennifer Siebel Newsom includes stories from teenage girls and interviews with well-known politicians, journalists, entertainers, activists, and academics.
The film is appropriate for adults and high school students; younger children are welcome at parents’ discretion.
A panel discussion will follow the screening.
There is a $10 suggested donation at the door to cover the cost of the film. For more information, please contact Heather McLeod, hamcleod@gmail.com.
