Interview with Dr. Temple Grandin

Friday, February 1, 2019 - 8:00pm to 10:00pm

This will be an inspiring evening of conversation with the inimitable Temple Grandin led by Duncan Strauss (Talking Animals).

Well-known for developing humane handling techniques and innovative equipment for livestock, Temple Grandin is one of the nation’s leading animal behaviorists and a renowned spokesperson for autism. She credits her own unique thinking processes for her insights into animal psychology.

Her experience growing up as an autistic person—Grandin herself didn’t talk until she was 3 years old—forms her perspective that all humans exhibit a natural variation of thinking processes. Throughout her early education, her own behavior and learning processes were not understood by her peers or teachers. Her work offers insight into these behaviors and thinking processes to develop greater understanding and more compassionate interactions among all people.

Her commitment to developing an understanding of human thinking led to her books, Thinking in Pictures and The Autistic Brain: Thinking Across the Spectrum. Grandin is currently Professor of Animal Science at Colorado State University.
