Sustainable Food Center's Fruit and Veggie Fest begins on June 4th! Fruit and Veggie Fest is a free, five-week-long celebration of central Texas' fresh height-of-season summer produce. On June 4th at 9:30 a.m., Jam Sanichat of Thai Fresh and Thrice will do a demonstration at the downtown market. Louis Singh of Dishalicious will do a demo at Sunset Valley. Community Gardening in Austin: A Panel Discussion and Local Food Potluck

We’ll close out the community gardens tour with Community Gardening in Austin: A Panel Discussion and Local Food Potluck from 6 - 8:30 pm at 5604 Manor (home of the Workers Defense Project, the Third Coast Workers for Cooperation, and Third Coast Activist Resource Center).  Speakers will share information about the current landscape of community gardening in Austin, the work they are doing to make Austin a more community garden-friendly city, and what you can do to get involved. Speakers will include:


Austin Progressive Potluckers: Austin Time Exchange Network

The Austin Time Exchange Network (ATEN) is a local program that enables individuals to provide and receive skills and services within a network of people and organizations in Greater Austin. Similar to concepts expressed in bartering and alternative currency systems, this grassroots initiative lets members exchange labor and assistance without using the U.S. Dollar. Launched in April of 2006, The Austin Time Exchange serves a significant purpose for Austin on several levels and in many areas of life.

PLEASE BRING: a dish that serves approximately 6-8 people. YOU WILL NEED TO BRING YOUR OWN PLATES, CUPS and UTENSILS! Our host will provide water. There are no food or beverage restrictions.


The Potluck will be hosted at SomaVida, a wellness center located on the east side at 1210 Rosewood, 78702. Soma Vida and healing arts practitioners at the center are members of the Austin Time Exchange and is a great business to support and frequent. KAB School Garden Workday at Eastside Memorial

Volunteers needed to spruce up and overhaul Eastside Memorial High School’s courtyard garden. Individual volunteers and small groups welcome. Projects will include building a native plant bed (laying border, transporting soil, and mulching bed) and restoring existing vegetable beds (weeding, soil amendment, and planting seeds). KAB’s Green Teens program will be working with teachers and students to use the garden beds year round as an outdoor learning space – join us to kick start this effort. This project can accommodate up to 25 volunteers.
