East Austin Studio Tour

The African American Cultural and Heritage Facility (AACHF) has been added to the portfolio of the City of Austin’s Cultural Arts Division, part of the Economic Development Department. Tours of the facility will be provided, including a special viewing of the African American Portrait Project, Reflections, by artist Reginald Adams.

Blanton Museum Contemporary Artist Panel: Fascination with Realism

The panel will explore artists’ fascination with realism and the ways in which its been integrated into contemporary art from the 1960s to present.

Peggy Kelsey, director of the Afghan Women’s Project, will discuss her book Gathering Strength: Conversations with Afghan Women. She created the project in 2002 after meeting with a delegation 14 Afghan women who came to Austin. She visited Afghanistan in 2003 and 2010 to photograph and interview women.
