Explore the Blanton at a free day-to-night community festival celebrating the newly reinstalled permanent collection galleries! The Blanton Block Party is the perfect opportunity to get reacquainted with the museum’s collection, while experiencing outdoor family art activities, a museum studies symposium, live music, food, and tours throughout the day. Enjoy a lecture and book signing by renowned artist Nina Katchadourian, in conjunction with her exhibition, Nina Katchadourian: Curiouser.

Blanton staff members present pecha kucha talks (20 slides, each displayed for 20 seconds) to present key works and themes in the Blanton’s reinstalled collection. The symposium culminates with a premiere of the 25-minute world premiere piece composed in response to the Blanton’s collection.

The Blanton’s award-winning program SoundSpace returns Sunday, February 19 from 2 – 4 p.m.!

In 2016, the hottest year on record, our planet experienced an unprecedented number of extreme weather events. This iteration of SoundSpace explores the various ways artists engage and respond to the natural world, including the use of field recordings, processed bat calls, plant amplification, seismograph readings, and translating climate data into sound.

Beat the Rush: Panoramic Voices

Beat the Rush is a series of gallery concerts in which musicians perform in response to the paintings, drawings, and sculptures on display. This month, Panoramic Voices premieres Strange in Other Ways, a new composition written by Travis Weller, the acclaimed Austin composer whose works incorporate dynamic soundscapes and tonal shifts.
