Attending: Selwyn, Colette, Greg, Christine, Drew & Karly
Updates:
Oak Hill - Hart has his first cold -- poor baby! Our group is still meeting
for satisfying potlucks. We are sending out inquiry letters re land and planning
a campout together for Mother's day weekend. Our next meeting will be on Sunday
May 5th at 4:30 (Saturday at 4 is hard for us to make on time so we're trying
a new date/time for the summer anyway). I'll copy y'all on the invitation in
case anyone else would like to join us.
Central Austin - Beginning to spend money, have retained an attorney, actively trying to hire Chris Scott-Hanson or other consultant to get the show really moving.
Austin Rural Coho - Land visit was great. Good turnout from all groups. Exploring engineering reports for land.
North Austin Rural Coho - Christine Pointeau formed - looking at creating a coho near Liberty Hill - 20 minutes North of Austin - exploring grants to fund land purchase, want 20-30 acres - strong emphasis on locally grown food.
Eileen reported in on status of Cohousing Fair project: She has contacted ACF, Maximum Potential Building Center & The Cohousing Network for Umbrella Services and is most interested in the Maxpot folks.
- People are interested in checking out Greenbriar - which is some kind of Intentional Community East of Austin. They have a potluck periodically - Selwyn to get info and notify folks on CACTUS email list.
Greg reported on Quakerland - a retreat place West of Kerrville which has strawbales homes built on it owned by First Unitarian Church - it is available on a request basis for workshops and other events. We thought it might be a good spot for some retreat or consensus training.
Next Public Event: We thought a cohousing potluck might be a good option. Proposed June 30th - Sunday from 3-6pm. Prefer outdoors. Drew to check out Fiesta Gardens. Other possibilities are: Stacey park (which has a pool), Central Market park. We need someone to make a sign and coordinate this project. The date is the same as the CAC group's social Sunday, so hopefully they could come and Selwyn will invite the Austin Progressive Potluckers so we can have some new people. It would be nice to have something where passers-by who are interested could join in and learn about cohousing. We also need to be sure to post this in the Chronicle community calendar and any other places we can to let people know about coho.
CACTUS list serve (cactgroup@yahoogroups.com) - A general encouragement to *post more to the list serve*. It would be great to see announcements of achievements by groups, fun things, meeting reminders, share resources, workshop announcements, questions and challenges about cohousing. Traffic on the list is pretty slow, so lets put out more information and stimulation!
NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, May 28 at Eileen & Rene's House. For directions go to CACTUS
