Installing google voice app on Chrome

Chrome recently changed how it handles installing sites like Google Voice as standalone apps, which looked like the feature had disappeared. In earlier versions, you could use the “Install app” icon directly in the address bar, but that option may no longer appear even though the underlying capability is still there. Thankfully, Chrome has just moved it into a different part of the browser menu rather than removing it entirely. By opening the menu and using the “Cast, Save, and Share → Install Google Voice…” option, you can still install Google Voice as its own windowed app and keep using it just like before.

You can install Google Voice as a standalone app from within the Chrome menu.

1. Open Google Voice in Chrome

  1. Open Google Chrome and navigate to https://voice.google.com and sign in with your Google account.

2. Open the Chrome menu

  1. With Google Voice open, click the Chrome menu (three dots) in the upper‑right corner of the browser window.

3. Select “Cast, Save, and Share”

  1. In the menu, hover over Cast, Save, and Share.
  2. In the submenu that appears, click Install Google Voice….

4. Confirm the installation

  1. A pop‑up window will ask if you want to install Google Voice.
  2. Click Install.

Chrome will close the Google Voice tab and open Google Voice in its own separate window, just like a desktop application. You can now pin it to your taskbar/dock or launch it from your apps list as you would any other app.

On a mac, finder will pop up to show the Chrome app: Google Voice
